Experience Deeper Healing

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and reprocessing. It sounds complex, so I’ll try to simplify things. Just how some therapists use creative arts or cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR is another type of modality. It is used for those who are seeking a deeper level healing of either, trauma, anxiety, feeling stuck, attachment wounds, just to name a few. Those who are a good fit for EMDR report having results that even they did not expect and finally resolving some long standing barriers in their lives.

I won’t get too far into the science because you are probably here to see if it can help YOU! Let’s just touch briefly on how it works and who discovered it. It was discovered by Dr. Francine Shapiro, she was upset going for a walk outside. She started thinking about what was upsetting her, as she focused on the ground and moved her eyes from left to right repeatedly it resulted in her feeling better. Viola! EMDR was born. Years and years of development and science resulted in its use in psychotherapy for targeting upsetting memories or events. Paired with left and right-side activation of the brain EMDR has been effective in reducing anxiety, depression, reactivity to the original trigger and even relieving stress as well as aiding in healing trauma. In short, EMDR can truly expedite the healing process!

The Proof Is In The Pudding

What I’ve experienced with EMDR and seen with my clients is truly remarkable. Memories find a home; trauma finds resolution and anxiety has a balm. It’s been incredible to witness and be part of. There are always layers when working with EMDR, starting with establishing safety. Every client I work with is different and therefore each person’s timeline and readiness vary. What I do see universally, is that treatment goals are reached faster.

Research has shown that EMDR is particularly helpful for trauma. I have also seen EMDR be extremely helpful with anxiety, depression, negative thoughts, emotional reactivity or feeling “stuck”.
